PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Stabilize 24,700 cubic yards of bottom ash with Portland cement

The basins were immediately outside of the powerhouse.  The sides of the basins were cement.  The bottoms were soil.  Over the years cleaning out the basins resulted in a considerably deeper depth of sludge that was originally assumed from the DTE records.  As shown in the pictures below, both basins were saturated.    Raymond Excavating performed dewatering prior to the commencement of stabilization.

As shown on the drawings above, the ISS was complicated by the concrete surrounding the basins.  The work area was very confined, so a good deal of prior planning was necessary so the work could be accomplished efficiently.  The plant placement was in the GPS program so that it would be precisely placed.  The following page details how the work was planned.
